About John B. Richards
As managing director and principal of the New England Consulting Group, John B. Richards draws on 47 years of experience identifying growth opportunities and refining international brands. Over his tenure at the New England Consulting Group, he has served as a consultant,operating executive, and member of the board for a number of service firms aimed at high-end market segments. As a member of the board of Life Time Fitness (NYSE LTM), John B. Richards helped the firm reach a valuation of $3.0+ billion through diversification into the cafe, spa, and events sectors before it went private. Richards also developed growth plans for many consumer companies including Medifast, Ahava, and Mimi’s Cafe, helping Medifast ( NYSE MED) , a chain of weight loss clinics,aggressively expand its company owned clinics .
Previously, John B. Richards served as CEO and president of the Red Door Spa by Elizabeth Arden. In this position, which he held from 2001 to 2006, he employed an aggressive Internet marketing strategy and revised customer service models in order to engineer a $33 million increase in sales. Earlier, as President of North American operations for Starbucks ( NASDAQ SBUX), he oversaw the opening of 2,500 stores in 30 months as well as the acquisition of several brands, contributing $85 million to yearly revenues. Between 1987 and 1997, John B. Richards served as Executive Vice President of Four Seasons Hotels(NYSE FS),which expanded into Europe and Asia , adding 34 further locations across 22 countries and achieving a $2.5 billion in revenues under management,during his tenure.
